Nintendo Revolution Will Offer Downloadable Classic Games

Filed under: Games — ntro @ 10:42 am

According to USA Today:

Nintendo, which mostly ignored the Net with GameCube, also is catching up with the online wave. Revolution will offer broadband access to a free Internet-based player matching service, similar to Xbox Live, that also will have downloadable versions of nearly every Nintendo game from arcade classic Donkey Kong through current titles such as Mario Sunshine. (Nintendo hasn’t decided whether downloading will be free.)

Man, oh man. If Nintendo makes every NES/SNES/N64/GCN game available for download, in my living room, they will easily win this round of the console wars. Classic gaming is big right now, and only Nintendo has the library to make something like this happen. Even if they don’t have the rights to most games, and it’s only first-party games, that’s good enough. Even if it’s not free, it can’t be expensive.

I think I just lost my ambition to build a home arcade emulator system.

More news on the Revolution as E3 unfolds, so stay tuned.
