Virtual Desktops in Windows XP

I finally found something better than Windows XP PowerToys Virtual Desktop Manager. It’s called Enhanced Virtual Desktops.

  1. It’s great that you have hunted this down for the world’s benefit, but it would have been great to know why it kicked Powertoys ass. As a perl programmer, and as such being lazy, it would have been much faster to read about the benefits of Enhanced Virtual Desktop from you, then having to download and install it for myself, or even visit their website.

  2. What, you don’t trust my opinion implicitly?

Alright, well here are a few improvements over the PowerToys one:

    * It’s fast. Powertoys is barely usable for someone who’s used to the speed of any Linux window manager’s virtual desktop switcher, EVD is just as fast as any of them.
    * Up to 9 virtual desktops, PowerToys only supports 4
    * One tiny icon in the status tray vs. PowerToys’ mandatory 6 icons + “MSVDM” label on the taskbar.
    * There’s a hotkey to move the active window to any other virtual desktop, so you don’t have to have “shared desktops” enabled like you do in PowerToys

    That’s all, I guess.
